ABOUT ME

My name is Eric Henderson and I'm a Florida native, born and raised in Miami.   I think I have always had a need to create.  As a toddler I made a mural with an entire Vaseline container on the living room wall.  My Grandfather and Great Grandfather were both talented artists.  My brother, Ben, is a graphic designer, a cartoonist, and animator.   Art must be in my blood.

My Grandfather, Walter Eric Haack, was a great artist and my biggest influence.  I remember as a kid watching him work in his studio.  Depending on the day he was either making fish,  painting a seascape, or carving a sculpture.  He could fabricate or fix just about anything.  I strive to be like him.

I graduated from Plantation High School in 1993.  In high school I excelled in my art classes and decided to go to art college.

I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree with Highest Honors from the University of Florida in 1998.  After graduating I worked as a Program Coordinator at The Education Fund in Miami from 1999 to 2001.  I ran a warehouse that collected free supplies for teachers.  Also, I was in charge of the annual art exhibition and art auction.

Next, I became an Art Teacher at Kinloch Park Elementary School in Miami from 2001 to 2003.  Every Monday I was an Art Museum Educator at Jackie Hinchey-Sipes Gallery in Miami.

I've been the Art Teacher at Lakewood Park Elementary School in Fort Pierce since 2003.

My beautiful wife, Ashle, and I have been married since 2001.  We have a wonderful son named Jack.

Making art helps me express myself and sort things out in my mind.  Art is a vital need for me and if I'm away from it for too long, I lose myself.
